17th IOPD Best Practice Award for Citizen Participation

Have you implemented a practice to promote participatory democracy in your city, region, or territory between January 2020 and March 2023? Then you could be recognized with the IOPD Award 2023!

The IOPD is an international network open to all cities, organizations, and research centers interested in learning about, exchanging, and applying experiences of participatory democracy at the local level. Since 2006 we have worked in collaboration with United Cities and Local Governments – UCLG

The award is delivered annually to recognize successful experiences and public policies on citizen participation, community engagement, democratic innovation, public deliberation, and open government. This year’s edition presents as a novelty the inclusion of categories to classify and evaluate the practices. Therefore, you must choose the category to nominate your practice: citizenship, decision, or deliberation.

The deadline for proposal submissions is May 31, 2023. To apply for the OIDP award, you must first proceed to formalize your network membership by filling in the membership form without any financial or legal commitment. Subsequently, you must fill out and send the application form in Word format and the attachments by email to award@oidp.net in English, French, Spanish, or Portuguese.

The nominations will be evaluated by an expert jury and an open evaluation through the online platform Participate OIDP

The local government winner of the best practice will receive the award, a diploma, a special dissemination of the experience and a paid trip with accommodation for one person to the 22nd Conference in Rio de Janeiro, which will take place from November 6 to 8, 2023.

We invite you to read the terms of the award before preparing your application.
