The European Confederation of Local Intermediate Authorities (CEPLI) will organise its annual Political Conference on 20 May 2025 in Hannover City.
The Hannover Region and the European Committee of Regions will be partners of this big event.
In a constantly evolving European context, marked by complex challenges ranging from green and digital transitions to new geopolitical and social tensions, cohesion remains a cornerstone for strengthening unity and competitiveness within the European Union. This conference aims to bring forward strategic discussions and concrete examples of how cohesion policy can effectively respond to today’s pressing challenges, while emphasizing the crucial role played by the intermediate level of governance.
The first session, “Priority to Europe: Cohesion and Current Challenges,” will explore how cohesion policy can be reinforced and adapted to remain relevant amidst changing European and global realities. It will examine approaches, visions, and policy directions that support balanced and inclusive territorial development.
The second session, “The Intermediate Level: Where Subsidiarity, Territorial Resilience and Local Partnership Converge for Policy Success,” will highlight the vital contribution of provincial and local powers in translating EU policies into concrete outcomes on the ground. With a precise understanding of community and territory needs and potential, these entities play a decisive role in effective and sustainable policy implementation.
Through dialogue and the exchange of best practices, this conference will underline the idea that the success of EU policies is deeply connected to the ability of all levels of governance to collaborate effectively guided by the principle of subsidiarity and committed to the sustainable and equitable development of European territories.
