Press Statement
The Palace of the European Commission of the Danube – seat of the County Library “V.A.Urechia” Library, an institution under the authority of Galaţi Provincial Council (Romania), has won the first European funding as a European Heritage Label.
The project Connecting Danube: Sharing European Heritage and Stories on the Wings of a Dove is being carried out in partnership with another site relevant to European culture and holder of the European Heritage Label award. It is the Museum of Vučedol Culture in the town of Vukovar, Croatia. The collaboration between the two European Heritage Label sites started with a common element, a particularly important symbol: the Danube.
The project is aimed at young people, and the two partner sites will run several events in 2025 to promote European cultural heritage through key areas such as youth engagement, digital innovation and promoting European citizenship.
With the priority of increasing visibility for a wide and diverse public, the project won by the two Romanian and Croatian MPE sites will make a significant contribution to this by organizing events with the participation of historians, authors and artists.
The project will offer to young people workshops and activities designed to stimulate creativity, critical thinking and skills development in informal contexts. Last but not least, digital tools will be incorporated to create engaging and accessible learning experiences.
The project will start in January next year with a promotion and information campaign in several high schools in Galati. The interactive meetings with high-school students will end with a digital creation contest and the winning team will receive a visit to Croatia at the partner
museum.
We are ready, together with the County Council and Europe Direct, to turn this opportunity into a success that will benefit the whole community!
Connecting Danube: Sharing European Heritage and Stories on the Wings of a Dove, totaling €30,000, is funded by the European Union through the European Heritage Label Office, and will run throughout 2025. The project coordinator, the Palace of the European Commission of the Danube in Galati, will receive around €20,000 for the project.
In 2022, the Palace of the European Commission of the Danube was awarded the title of European Heritage Label by the European Commission, following a national and European competition. It is the first monument in Galati and the second in Romania to hold the prestigious distinction.
