The event ‘Nice to meet EU’ aimed to bring Europe closer to young people and at the same time sited young people in touch with the EU – with the participation of a member of the European Committee of the Regions, the president of Lucca Province, Mr Lucca Menesini. Students had the chance to learn how the EU institutions work, their functions and competences over the policy issues they are interested in discussing. Nice to meet EU was a lab for active citizenship where students become stakeholders in the CoFoE process, that reflects the essence of European Democracy. Over the last months, the city of Lucca has organised events and dialogues with up to 500 students from the region. This process culminated with a large event on 9th May 2022.
