More than roads - social cohesion on the Romanian-Hungarian border

Publish date: Thursday, 10 February 2022

The project was promoted by the partnership formed by Arad County, the Foundation for Business Development from Bekes County and Curtici Town

Arad County Council has assumed the role of main partner, having the responsibility of coordinating the development of the entire project.

The project was funded by the Interreg Program V A RO-HU 2014-2020 and consisted of modernizing the county's cross-border road network. It facilitates labor mobility from both sides of the border to the industrial areas of Arad County. It is not only an infrastructure project, but also a social one, between two regions with a two-stage development:

  • western part of Romania, respectively Arad County, with an unemployment rate of 1.4%
  • eastern part of Hungary, with communities where finding a job represents a big challenge.

It is therefore a cross-border social cohesion project, with an impact on the quality of life for communities on both sides of the border.

The total duration of the project is 42 months.

The total eligible value of the project: 8,722,697 Euro

The value of the non-reimbursable financing: 8,548,155 Euro

Implementation period: 01.07.2019 - 30.06.2022
